There are people who will come into your life and their assignment is to steal your joy. To get you off track. To make you question everything you know about yourself. I call these people dream killers, purpose blockers, DISTRACTIONS.

Yesterday in my quiet time God said "Niecy, why are you so worried about what that one person says and believes about you? If they will deny me and I came to save their life - what makes you think you are exempt from rejection"?

Everyone doesn't have to like you. That doesn't stop you. The more you Shine, the more stories they will make up about you to feel better about themselves.

I play small for no one. Like me or not. Make up stories on me. Believe what you want about me. My life speaks for itself.

You have a very important assignment here and it's your job to keep shining. So take your daily dose of glitter and SHINE ON!

My Simple Abundance

6:26 AM
I am so grateful for my life - for this very reason. It certainly is not perfect, I am not perfect, but I know God has an awesome plan and even when I can't yet see it - I believe it with all my heart.

So today I am grateful that I am strong enough to live my life! I am grateful that the week started on a really fun note with some Zumba dancing with my favorite "volleyball girls" as Munchkin calls them.

I am grateful for the group of ladies who have joined my Rising Stars program this go around. We are pushing each other to live out our dreams and not wait for them to happen but to go and make them happen. Their tenacity inspires me.

I am again grateful for a week living up to my most important role - Mommy. I don't think I realized just how much I missed doing the everyday things like picking him up from school, having a quick snack and going to soccer practice. Now if I could just get the house clean -

And finally, I'm grateful for the end of a week that brought me to my knees. Sometimes I get in the routine of going about life and God gently or not so gently reminds me that I need to come back to Him as my Source. Thank You.

Join in the fun of expressing your gratitude each day. Simply use the hashtag #simpleabundance on twitter.

In need of my secret place

11:23 AM
Disclaimer: If you have issues with me writing about the truth of going through a divorce, please leave this post right now. This is my life and my blog, and I would be leading you on to make you believe life is all peachy keen while going through this process.

So you've been fairly warned. If you are sticking around to read more, you should know something about me. I'm not bitter about my divorce. I've been freed by the one who has the power to free me and has made me whole.

I'm struggling today. Today is one of those days where I've started and just can't seem to stop. Now I'm in a full blown "I hate this" fit and I'm fighting to be normal around my son.

Let's get into a little background. When I decided to leave Baltimore in 2009, it is because I wanted to give myself the best chance to live my best life. I still remember my father's words over the phone that day - "Come home. Let us love on you and Trey."

That's exactly what I did. I came home and let my family love on us, adore us and give me time to get it together. Something else happened - my leaving forced me back into God's arms. I had been neglecting him while I was married.

God worked on me - alot. He took a lot of things out of me - unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, hurt. I feel like he gave me an open heart surgery.

He did something else though, that has meant the most to me, he gave me time. When I left Baltimore, I immediately hired an attorney - only to learn I would have to stay legally separated for a year before we could actually file for a divorce. What seemed like an antiquated law on the books at the time to keep a woman subject to her husband, actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. That year of "having" to be separated before we could rush to the courthouse gave me the time to allow God to do some work on me.

That first year led into a second year with still very little change either way. In fact, I guess you could say from the outside looking in things looked like they were getting significantly worse - except for the fact that what you see is on the outside, and God was performing His work on me from the inside.

These past two years brought a lot of change in me and Munchkin's life, but we're surrounded in love and God's grace has been nothing short but amazing.

But tonight I'm uneasy - even though I know God has brought me so much peace. Me and Munchkin's father had a difficult day dealing with grown up stuff, so when I saw he was on Skype, I thought it would be great for them to talk so we can both be reminded who is most important here.

Now, I'm more frustrated. Now, I'm the one that has to answer the questions I know I'm ok. I know God's got it. But every time I can't help but ask why? In my eyes it just doesn't make sense.

So I'll goof around with Munchkin until bedtime and then find my secret place so that me and Him can spend some time together. I'm looking forward to that. I know He will remind me I'm His chosen. I know He'll remind me I'm beautiful and He's in control. I love Him for this.

Somedays, life is just harder than others. That's why I'm so grateful for God's grace. It is over and beyond sufficient.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 2:9

There's a mirror over my fireplace

7:28 PM
Not too long ago I saw this mirror on Pinterest and fell in love:

After a few clicks, I discovered it was from of course one of my favorite blogs, centsationalgirl.com. I LOVE this woman and her ideas which explains why I loved the mirror in her living room so much! The best thing I loved about this mirror was the shape - so I set out to find out where she got it from. Of course, it would have been too easy to be able to go online and buy this mirror, as is, and hang it over my fireplace.

Centsationalgirl actually bought this mirror as a brass color and spray painted it glossy white. I thought "oh no". I'll spend $250 dollars on a mirror and get it home and still have to paint it and possibly mess it up! I'll admit, my painting skills are still a work in progress.

One night last weekend I decided to run by Marshall's to see if I could find any good deals on little essentials for Munchkin and me. Of course, my walk around the store detoured to home goods sections. What do you know? Sitting right there with the mirrors was a gem. Not exactly the same mirror from Centsational girl but something that would definitely work. The best part - she was only $34.99.

So I scooped her up, made sure I would be able to return it if it didn't work in my space, and headed to Lowe's to buy some glossy white spray paint. When I got it home I decided to hold off on spray painting - me being part lazy but also because my current entertainment center is an old woody dresser I painted an antique white which some of the dark wood still shows through. I thought the rustic/rugged feel of the mirror might make my entertainment center feel more intentional.

So here's the new mirror over my fireplace:

(forgive me - I'm a new blogger in this space - my pictures were taken on my iphone in a weird lighting)

Eventually I'll use that can of glossy white spray paint to make it more like the mirror from Centsational Girl - but for now I'm enjoying that 'get it home and get it on the wall feel'.

I'll post more pictures. The mantle is in transition from full Christmas decorations to I think this will take us through January and Winter, to finding the perfect accents for spring!

Thanks for obliging my first 'home' post!

I LOVE Being in Direct Sales

11:02 AM
I'm not trying to recruit anyone with this post, but today I was just thinking about all the great friendships I've made through my direct sales business. One of the other awesome things is that I get to meet other women, and some men, who are doing the same thing I am doing - building a home based business selling products they love while having fun doing it.

Since I've made so many great friendships - I have vowed to myself that as much as I can - I will help finance my friend's dreams just like they are helping me by purchasing their products. Sure I could go to Target and buy a set of containers for my food, but why would I when I could go to Crystal my Independent Tupperware friend. Tonight, my Silpada friend is having a Chocolate and Jewelry party, which I can't make it to, but I'm already looking to see what I can get. I have interior designer friends, cooking friends, fitness friends. There are so many of us out there who absolutely love what we do and I'm so grateful I've been able to build these relationships and support my friends just as they support me. So if there's something you're looking for other than Scentsy - just ask me. I'm sure I have a friend that sells it!

Tuesday's Thoughts

8:44 PM
Today has been a great day! Besides my uh oh of scheduling an important meeting at a drive-thru only Starbucks - today has been fulfilling.

I worked. I planned. I took Munchkin to soccer. Got his hair cut. Held a leadership development call with some of my favorite Scentsy gals. I spent qt with Munchkin. We ate, we laughed. He went to bed. Then - it came time to write. There are so many things I wanted to write about tonight I couldn't decide which would make it in today's post - so I decided to just begin writing & to stop when my spirit says stop.

Something I saw this morning on Twitter stuck with me all day. A retweet on twitter by the @ramseyshow caught my attention, pulled at my heart & made me a little bit envious. The tweet said "Thanks @ramseyshow! WE'RE DEBT FREEEEEEEEEE!!! with this photo attached:

...and I thought "Wow, how amazing it must feel to have that feeling". So after thinking about this all day - when I left work I went to Wal-Mart to find Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover book. This particular Wal-Mart's book section was a mess. So I went to Bookworks. They haven't carried it for years. They offered to order it for me - but this tweet stayed in my head. I wanted the book now. After getting Munchkin from school, I went to B&N and picked up a copy. I prayed - "Lord, whatever tool in this book you used to help set others free - please set me free".

I couldn't wait to begin reading. I read the entire time Munchkin was in soccer (except for him running into the glass). I was eager to learn more about the principles in this book. To figure out what people were doing to be able to proclaim "I'm debt free" including their mortgage. What is the secret?

It didn't take long to realize - the person I have to look to for answers is not far away.

I'm scared. I'm excited. I know it is time.

I was at Scentsy Leadership Retreat a few weeks ago and one of Dave's partners - Chris LoCorto - taught about the very principles in the Total Money Makeover. Through Scentsy - I had experienced one of these powerful live events so many talk about. It is no coincidence I saw that tweet today that nearly moved me to tears. It's my time.

One of the things that really stuck with me from Chris' presentation was the idea of getting Gazelle Intense about eliminating debt in your life. The passion and fervor that he delivered this totally grabbed my attention. It comes from Proverbs 6:5 -

Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter
The description he gave is that a lion is faster than the gazelle when running straight ahead - so the Gazelle knows it must run to and from, back and forth, to beat the lion. It is with that intensity that we must run the race to become debt free.
Here are some of the lessons we learned from Chris' training in Riviera Maya -

I feel like blowing these up and hanging them all around my house as reminders. And of course the mantra for this journey "live like others won't so you can live like others can't".

Here we go!

Monday Night Replay - My Feet Are Off the Ground

6:09 AM
I have tried blogging for several years - none of which have I been as excited about as this blog! There are some great posts on my previous blogs, so I'm going to try to share those stories here every now and then to sort of clean house.

My Feet Are Off The Ground

From Tyler Perry: Writer and Actor

This morning I awoke and was so frustrated about all of the stuff that I’m dealing with in trying to get this studio open.

I was about to open my mouth & start complaining when I remembered something that happened to me a year ago.

I was walking to my car when this woman who appeared to be homeless started walking towards me. I’m ashamed to say this but I thought, ‘I don’t feel like being hustled today.’ Then I got quickly convicted. I felt guilty so I started digging in my pocket for some money. As she got closer I noticed that she had the kindest eyes that I had ever seen.

As I was reaching into my pocket she started to speak. I thought, ‘Here goes the sales pitch’. She said ‘Excuse me sir, I need some shoes. Can you help me?’ My eyes filled with water because I remember being out on the streets and having only one pair of run over shoes. I was taken aback for a second.

I took her inside the studio and had my wardrobe people find shoes in her size. As she put the shoes on she started crying, praising God and thanking Jesus, and saying, ‘My feet are off the ground! My feet are off the ‘ ground! Several of the wardrobe people started crying. I was crying. But I never forgot those words. ‘My feet are off the ground!’ I thought, ‘Wow! All she wanted was some shoes.’ She quickly disappeared and never asked me for a dime. I realized that I still had the money in my hand so I went out looking for her. She was gone just that quick so I looked all around the neighbourhood for her. I found her standing on a corner looking down at her shoes, still crying. I was so touched. I asked her how she had gotten homeless. She told me that she had AIDS and that she was waiting to get into a shelter.. She said that her family had turned their backs on her and that she had no place to go, but she knew that God would make a way for her. I said to myself, ‘He just did

Her faith and her praise moved me. I took her to a nearby hotel and put her up until she was able to get on her feet I had someone that worked for me to check on her from time to time and to make sure that she had food and clothes. After about a month or so we lost touch, but I never forgot her.

This past summer I was shooting ‘Daddy’s Little Girls’ and this woman walks up to me smiling. I didn’t recognize her face, but her eyes were familiar. She had on a really nice dress and her hair was done. It was her! She told me that the little help that I had given her had changed her life.

She was in a house now and doing very well. I said all of that to say this. After I met this woman, every time I think about complaining and mumbling I remember, ‘My feet are off the ground!’

I wanted to share this with you just to let you know that when I say that I am thankful for you, I mean it. And when I say that you are a blessing to me, I mean it.

We take so much for granted sometimes that I just wanted all of you to know that I am grateful to God for you every day. Thank you for being in my life.

~Tyler Perry

This story moves me every time I read it. Want to help someone get their feet off the ground? I just love companies who have made the ordinary person and extraordinary do-gooder. Toms Shoes has revolutionized the way we shop. For every shoes you purchase, they will give a pair of shoes to a child in need through their one on one program. How cool is that?!

I'm thinking these cute botas for my Munchkin:

...and these classic red for me:

The Things I'm Most Grateful For

7:50 AM
I am trying to start something where I post the 5 things I'm most grateful for each day on Twitter before I go to bed. The idea came to me one day when listening to Oprah Radio in the car as she interviewed the author of Simple Abundance (better known as the little pink book). I haven't actually read the book, but in that interview I picked up on the main principle - and it was pretty simple - give thanks. Every day, give thanks. Even if it is for the seemingly small things like going through the day without crying, give thanks for that. I thought - how profound. How wonderful it would be to create an atmosphere of gratitude every single day. I usually catch up on my timeline while laying in bed at night - so how about I use that time to share some good with the world. I'll carry that idea here as well, and on Saturdays I'll post the 5 things from the week I am most grateful for! Now I'm all excited!

This week I am grateful for:1. A return to sanity and a routine schedule. The last 10 months I sacrificed being able to pick up my son from school, cooking dinner, going to the park. This week that was restored.2. Clients who are understanding - even when I haven't been at my best for them.3. The people God brought into my life through The CommunityChange Group.4. The super major announcement that came from Scentsy this week!5. Getting the opportunity to spend some time with my sisters of AKA.

How could you not be grateful for more time with him? This week at PreK-3 wiped him out.

My Scentsy Journey

11:11 AM
Have you heard about the Scentsation? If not, then let me introduce you to the premiere line in home fragrance. On January 13, 2010, my sister called me early in the morning to find out if I would join a company called Scentsy. My immediate response was "you mean one of those direct selling things"? She said yes. My mom had a warmer at home and my sister wanted one. She soon discovered that the only way to purchase one was through an independent consultant - and she wanted to join. So, despite my hesitation, she joined that morning and I was the first person to join her team that afternoon.

Fast forward two years later and I will be the first to tell you I never imagined doing so many things with Scentsy. To say I LOVE this company is an understatement. I L-O-V-E this company! It is about so much more than light bulbs and wax. We have so much fun, we travel, we inspire, we meet new people, we help people become financially free and gain their own self confidence. In short - we change the world one wickless candle at a time!

What started out as just a hobby to spend girl time with my sister has turned into a full on business. One I intend on working full-time within the next year. I also own my own consulting firm - and I intend to keep working that as well - but to make it more self sustaining so I can bless my amazing group members through that because my financial needs are taken care of through Scentsy.

Here is a brief photo history of my Scentsy journey. Trust that there is much more to come:
