Simple Saturday - I Rise

11:31 AM

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

12:59 PM
The Red Pump Project

Yesterday, in honor of the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, I ROCKED THE RED PUMP to raise awareness about this issue that affects so many women and girls.  I did this because I'm such a staunch advocate of women's rights, and because this virus has killed one too many.  For more information about the campaign, please visit The Red Pump Project's website.

12:03 PM
I woke up this morning thinking about the thirst in the world.  You know...that's a common phrase in our explaining things now-a-days.  We say "the thirst out here is real" and "they are so thirsty".  We use these phrases to describe people who are seeking attention in one form or another.  Generally from the opposite sex.

It also made me start thinking about what we get from social media besides just sharing.  Are we validating ourselves by the number of "likes" we get, or is God able to use us to inspire others and spread His light. To learn from others and to share in a new and powerful way?

There are definitely times where I have had to check myself and ask "Niecy, why are you sharing this?  Does it benefit you or anyone else or are you just seeking attention?

While I was standing in my bathroom twisting my hair...I started to think about this song from CeCe Winans that I used to worship to all the time.

It is ok to be thirsty...the Bible tells us to be thirsty.  The problem is...we have allowed our thirst to be for things in this fickle world.   Matthew 5:6 says:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for God's approval. They will be satisfied.

Are you thirsty for approval?  Yes....I know am.  Whose approval are you thirsty for?  Seriously examine yourself and answer this honestly.    If you're seeking approval from any person, anything here on earth, listen to the video above.  Worship God and ask Him to fill your heart and to quench your thirst.

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
I love this scripture from Psalm 42: 1-2.  I have certainly posted on my different social media pages from time to time that I need to go meet with my God.  When I don't, I get in these funks.  I get moody.  I get cranky.  I miss my God.  There is truly no love like His.  He is the Greatest Love I've ever known.  Now I'm not about to sit over here at The Virtuous Home and act like I'm always running to God.  I certainly have and continue to at times put my hope in man.  I have and still continue at times to thirst for human desires, and to receive attention from people.   I also know that even when I do get that attention, there is still something missing.  My desire, my thirst, is not quenched until I find myself running back to Him.  Jesus even says so:

Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.” John 4:13-14
It's ok to be thirsty.  Just check yourself and make sure your thirst is in Him and not him.

Leave Your Big Girl Pants At Home

9:08 AM
This week has literally just about exhausted me. It has taken everything in me not to just stay in bed all day.

Wednesday night I worked out....and literally fell asleep on the rug on my bedroom floor. I woke up in the middle of the night dazed and confused.  I came to work the next day and asked our Clinical Director if this was a sign of depression.  She assured me it wasn't....just exhaustion.

I'm having to do a lot of self talk to myself lately to remind myself to stay present. Stay in the moment. Enjoy the moment.  I want to see the whole staircase now!

So a friend of mine who does really amazing things....really blessed me this morning.  We were texting and he said "sometimes you have to leave your big girl pants at home"!

I so needed to hear that after this week I've had.

So on my way to work I noticed this random stop sign at the railroad tracks with Bullshit tagged across it.  I thought - damn those pants - I'm going for it.

I hope you leave your big girl pants at home this weekend!

Crazy Love - Week 1

5:56 PM
Thank you for joining me for our Wednesday night Bible Study!

This week - we simply start with the Forward and Introduction to the book.  My how power packed just the Foreward and Intro are!

What would your life look like, what would your testimony be, if the people around you identified you as a "Christ-one"?  Meaning - without you even having to declare yourself a Christian, the people around you could feel God's power in you.   As I began thinking about this, I think about the times when my life ministry was at it's most powerful.  It wasn't when I was opening my mouth to declare I'm a Christian....it's those times where I was walking out my faith.  Being the light in this world...helping and serving others, that they have literally commented about seeing the "light" in my smile.

This week I challenge us to walk out our faith so that people who encounter us identify us as being a "Christ-one".  Don't tell anyone with your mouth that you are a Christian.  Show them.  Remain strong in faith and allow God to use you to bring many people to Him.  His glory. His power.  His Holy Spirit.

Love you!

Don't you want a crazy love?

8:52 AM
I have thought about doing this. For longer than I should have.  I have tried participating in online Bible studies. I have commitment issues.  I have tried "facilitating" orchestrated online Bible studies. I failed.  So Lord why do you keep placing the desire on my heart to lead an online Bible study here at The Virtuous Home?  I doubt myself. I won't finish.  I start out committed. I don't finish.

A year later and there is still a whisper telling me to do.  Not enough people read my blog. Who will it reach?  I don't want to start something I won't finish.

You need to start and finish.

So here I am.  After about a year of going back and forth with myself about whether I am worthy enough to attempt to lead an online Bible study here at The Virtuous Home and God has consistently, persistently, told be me to obey.

I am obeying.

I am excited.

I am scared.

I am humbled.

I am grateful.

I grew up in a small, southern baptist church in Alamogordo, NM.  Every Wednesday evening we had Bible study and prayer service.  To this day, my beautiful 81 year old Granny makes her way to the church house on Wednesday evenings for Bible study and prayer meeting.  So going along with my roots - I decided it would be great to post each Wednesday for a weekly study.

Here is the way I will kick this off.  The first book I will be using is Crazy Love, by Francis Chan.  I started reading this book about a year ago but I wasn't ready.  You know when something is calling you deeper and you don't want to go there?  I tend to just set it aside when this happens.  That is exactly what I did.

My study tools: Ipad, journal, Bible, notecards, pen, and notebook.
I am in love with this book, but even greater than that, I am in love with the God this book challenges us to fall crazy in love with, for.  I am ready for that kind of crazy love.

Even if you aren't ready to dive into a full out Bible study, I pray these posts bless you right when and where you need it.

I love you.

This week's verse to walk out.  Why just memorize it if you're not going to live it?

Manicure Monday

12:00 AM
I scoped out the official China Glaze's instagram page this weekend, and picked up their colour of the month - "Keep calm, paint on".  Ooooo....it tells me spring is knocking on the door!

Making the Word live in your life

9:21 AM
I often tuck away little scripture cards in my prayer journal to remind myself of God's Word.  This morning....I needed to see this card I wrote several months back.

It is so important to insert your name, your life, your situation into the Word of God to make it active, living, and applicable to your current situation.  God is good....His Word is everlasting...and His truth endures.

Speak God's promises over your life.

Love you.

February Yoga

10:06 PM
February was a good month for me.  In my career, I feel as though I made strides in being a better Executive Director and ambassador for our organization.

I practiced new poses  ....
...and got better at them.

I fell from grace....
 ...which really hurt.

I reminded myself...

I rested....and tried again.

...and fell in love with me.

I took a little breather....and let some love in.

I rested...recovered.

...and found a really sweet spot to hang out.

I started getting stronger....
...and practiced in my onesie ;-)

I rested....

...and spent a lot of time hanging upside down.
Please ignore my messy bed. My son was jumping up and down!
